The Daily Mail reported Monday that the average life expectancy of a pilot in the Royal Air Force was about 15 minutes-kind of like the Battle of Yavin on Star Wars, Episode IV, A New Hope.

However, 19-year-old Allan Scott went up and took out his first German bomber.

Scott went up again today in a British Spitfire as part of the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Air Force’s 100th Anniversary celebration in Bromley, a London borough.

Elizabeth II was not even queen when Scott took to the skies, as she ascended to the throne in 1952 (source: BBC).  However, she thanked him for his gallantry as Scott was one of the British pilots who preserved British freedom from the encroaching Third Reich.

Allan Scott is to be celebrated for the heroism he did and the life he has lived.

Thank you for your service, Mr. Scott.  You were a great squadron leader and an even better man for taking on the deadly assignments which were given to you.  Thank you for helping to destroy the Reich.

God Save the Queen, and God bless you, sir.
